Sport takes you higher: how to prepare your body to work in extreme conditions
Many people consider sport and work to be distant and unconnected. However, sport can really enable those who work in difficult conditions every day, such as our operators, to perform at their best. Let’s analyse some of the benefits sport offers.
Firstly, sport has the potential to reduce sickness absence. Besides health reasons, it is well known that doing sport properly strengthens our immune system. However, if beginners train too intensely, they may produce the opposite effect. Therefore, we need to find the right compromise and plan a training programme tailored to the individual. Thus, our body is in a better position to fight off cooling diseases, such as flu, cold, cough and sore throat.
Moreover, doing sport increases our productivity as it allows to have a better state of mind and relatively lower stress levels. These benefits inevitably produce positive effects on our mind and therefore on our work performance.
Sport improves our memory and learning abilities. When we play sport, our body releases neurotransmitters such as dopamine and noradrenaline, which are essential to retain information in our mind.
Playing sport improves team building. Doing team sports or exercising in company contributes to establish and maintain stronger relationships. This allows to bond outside work and to create a more relaxed working environment where everyone feels more comfortable.
Finally, sport stimulates concentration. It has been shown that even low-intensity physical activity improves brain performance. Especially when carrying out repetitive work for long periods, our brain needs to be constantly active in order to perform at its best.
At Magni, we believe in sport and teamwork as means to achieve common goals. Thus, we decided to sponsor the Castelfranco Emilia Volley under-15 volleyball team.
