Magni takes the field at the Bernabeu
Many modern stadiums have undergone renovation. They are no longer just sports fields, but versatile structures hosting different kinds of events. The Bernabeu stadium in Madrid is subject to a futuristic renovation project in which Magni is at the forefront.
Real Madrid began renovation work on the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in 2019. The project is supposed to be completed by early 2023, so that the stadium will be available for the following season.
The project is aimed at improving the aesthetics and functionality of the stadium by making it more comfortable, safe and modern, with the addition of leisure, restaurant and entertainment areas. The objective is to ensure that the arena continues to be a global benchmark within the worlds of sport and architecture.
Among the most innovative interventions is a revolutionary system of retractable fields to meet the need for a multi-purpose facility that, in addition to hosting football matches, can also stage concerts, conferences and other sporting events.
The real grass surface will divide into six sections which can be retracted and stored in a garage underneath the stadium. The different sections are supplied with light, water and ventilation in order to be kept in top condition. The stadium will also feature an artificial pitch that can be used for training and other purposes.
Supplied by our local dealer GAM, a Magni RTH 5.25 is at the forefront of the project. With a maximum capacity of 5 tonnes and a maximum lifting height of 24.60 metres, the machine took part in the work at the beginning of June in the Cueva, for the installation of the retractable fields under the pitch, at a depth of 25 metres.
Once unloaded in Calle Padre Damian, one of the entrances to the stadium, the machine was lowered with a 120-tonne crane. To carry out the work, three 26-metre articulated boom lifts supported the Magni.
The machine was equipped with various attachments. Forks where used to handle materials within the jobsite and a winch was used to lower the retractable field sections under the stadium. One of the main advantages of Magni machines is that, depending on the attachment equipped, they can perform different works, maximising efficiency and reducing costs.
