The engine is an essential component as it generates the motion that is transmitted to the entire machine.When it comes to Magni’s telehandlers, the engine is the heart that ensures overall performance as it is responsible for the movement of the wheels, the boom, the stabilisers and the turret rotation.
Magni chose Volvo Penta D5 engine for its top-of-the-range RTH rotating telehandlers. The 6-ton (except the 6.30), 8-ton and 12-ton models are equipped with the 175 kW version with 238 horsepower, while the 6.30 and 7.26 models are equipped with the 160 kW version with 218 horsepower.
The D5 engine is an in-line 4-cylinder, 5.1-liter engine. It features common-rail fuel injection, overhead camshaft, and Fixed Geometry Turbo. Its unique design combined with the exhaust after-treatment system form a perfectly synchronised system. This engineering product was developed to work properly in the most diverse and demanding applications. Customer-focused research has resulted in an engine that fully meets all market requirements.
The D5 engine is designed to deliver maximum power and torque at low rpm. This results in optimised performance and smooth operation even on rough terrain. Moreover, the power and torque layout ensure the engine operates in a wide engine speed range.
The engineering principles behind this engine reduce the cooling capacity needed, minimizing the radiator size. Furthermore, the hardware interfaces are compatible with engines of earlier legislations.
The engine takes advantage of the ‘zero regeneration‘. This means that the need for active regeneration has been minimised, reducing downtime and keeping customers’ machines operational and profitable. Thanks to the perfect combination of the optimised engine and exhaust aftertreatment system, Volvo Penta increased uptime by maximizing the use of passive regeneration. The soot accumulated in the DPF is burned off during normal machine operation, without the need for frequent active standstill regeneration.
Low noise levels
The in-line four-cylinder engine and a common rail system ensure smooth operations with low noise levels. The torque available at low rpm allows operation with the engine at full throttle without accelerating, resulting in greater comfort and a better working environment.
Low emissions and running costs:
Thanks to its internal design and optimised DPF/SCR technology, the engine delivers a reduction of up to 5% in fuel consumption, compared to Stage IV, contributing to low running costs. Lower fuel consumption also means that less CO2 emissions are released into the atmosphere, helping to reduce greenhouse gases and enabling customers to reach their sustainability goals.
Easier and faster service
Being extremely compact, the D5 can be installed longitudinally to the horizontal axis of the machine. This optimises the space inside the engine compartment, facilitating access, installation and servicing. The accessibility of the main filters from above also speeds up routine maintenance.
